How to prepare for your newborn photoshoot

Having your newborn photoshoot is the perfect way to treasure and capture these moments when your baby is brand new. It is my goal as your chosen photographer to make this experience as relax and enjoyable as possible.

The photoshoot is your chance to relax (even take a nap if needed) and let me take over, I will do all settling and posing and even the feeding if needed!

There is however a few things that you can do at home before the session to help. One thing that you can do is bath little one, this can help keep baby awake for a little while before the session. Afterwards if you can pop baby in something that will be nice and easy to take off at the studio to reduce unsettling baby as little as possible on arrival. Also, if you can try and feed your baby just before leaving the house or on arrival this can help for a smooth photo session. Please do not stress to much if this does not happen though as the photoshoot will last around 2-3 hours long leaving plenty of time for any extra feeds and settling. The session is completely baby led; I will go at their pace and what they are comfortable with. I have all the props, blankets, wraps and headbands needed throughout your photoshoot to create a beautiful gallery for you.

What to bring:

  • Your nappy bag with all your essentials, with some extra nappies and wipes.
  • A dummy. Even if you don't use one yet it can sometimes help the session when transitioning into different poses.
  • Extra formula if botte fed. If you're breastfeeding, please be prepared in case you need to feed a little more than usual.
  • Any sentimental items if you chose to bring any. For example, a name plaque, special teddy or blanket.

What to wear

When it comes to choosing your own outfits for family and sibling pictures, I always recommend something quite simple and neutral. Matching tones work well together and stay timeless for your images to treasure forever, think pale pinks, blues, creams or whites. Try to avoid any busy patterns and anything to distracting. You want the main focus to be on your new addition and your connection as a family. It is also important to remember the studio is extremely warm during your newborn photoshoot so it's best to wear something you will be comfortable in. You may wish to bring something for young siblings to change into to keep them cool when not being photographed.
